Male calling presumably to nearby female after taking prey. Female would eventually swoop in and accept prepped prey from male. Nest nearby.
Деталі спостереження
Saw some interesting behavior with these two a couple of days ago and thought they were likely going to nest nearby. Went back today and patiently awaited calls to locate birds. This time it was the male I heard first with a constant squeaky “kik” call every 5 or seconds. On further examination I noticed he had a small bird as prey (unable to ID). The male then went on to pluck feathers seemingly to prep the prey for female who swooped in a couple of minutes later to eat the bird. Male left the bird on a branch and then stuck around in vicinity. Female gave her own occasional “kek kek kek kek” calls when male approached. I stayed on them for a while and was happy to discover the nest in crown of loblolly pine when male flew up to it. My guess is female has yet to lay eggs? Both calls are recorded.
