One responded to playback on the main road at -23.471458, -45.172168. It’s vocal response was extremely quick, singing but not approaching. It took some time before the bird decided to approach but once it did it showed extremely well, despite remaining in the darkness of the understory. It would often perch on exposed branches and remain stationary for some time before moving on. After a while it hoped onto the ground and began feeding, giving us a fantastic view of its namesake behaviour. For a Leaftosser, which are normally extremely aggravated in response to playback, this bird was remarkably calm, only approaching to investigate the source of the song before either retreating into the forest or feeding on the ground. Although the light was dim it showed us clearly the orange-tinged throat. It is possible that the bird only approached due to the awful light conditions, and were it any brighter it would have chosen to remain in the forest. Photos and audio were both obtained.
