Phonescoped at 75X power with Zeiss T*FL 85 mm scope
Деталі спостереження
I was scanning the Sand Island area when I came across this black bird sitting on this rock just east of Sand Island, which is about 1 mile out from the foot of I St. I focused on it and zoomed in and to my surprise it was a BLACK OYSTERCATCHER. Totally flabbergasted as the bird perched right on top of the rock. George Ziminsky was able to get looks at it and we shared the bird with a couple that passed by. I immediately called David Fix about the bird who promptly drove over but missed it by minutes as a boat out in the bay flushed a lot of the birds that were clustered there. First record of Black Oystercatcher seen from the Arcata Marsh and most likely the first one seen in north Humboldt Bay. BIRD OF THE DAY!!!
