Mega**!!! ID changed to PAJA after looking more carefully at photos. Until i add them this evening, check here for them (https://www.facebook.com/groups/141271146542324/?post_id=602064400462994) Gorgeous, gorgeous adult bird. After counting everything on the pond (West Valley wildlife viewing area 48.257427,-114.390018) I sat for a few minutes to listen for any longspurs, when I then noticed a new bird out on the water. I zoom in and see a long winged dark mantled gull like bird. The dark cap then had my mind screaming "JAEGER!!!" It then stretched, showing at least 3 fully white shafted primary feathers, too many for LTJA, and lifted off. Gave me a close flyby where I saw the small white underwing patch, which is also more indicative of PAJA. Other suggestive field marks for PAJA include a white coma just undder the wing, and the white spot at the base of the bill. Won't mention proportions because I've always been a terrible judge of that. Only observed for about 30 seconds before it was gone. Check Flathead lake!
