RARE: Singing from Cottonwoods and willows, mostly sticking to mature cottonwoods. Beyond the riparian the habitat was ag, and shortgrass/Sagebrush mix. Song was the typical back and forth long pause song shared by the majority of vireos. Very burry song. Had the telltale repeated upslur "Vee-urp" type section that is diagnostic of YTVI. The repeated nature is key as CAVI make this sound occasionally in their songs, but not constantly like YTVI. First thought I had was REVI due to habitat, ruled out quickly by burry song. Habitat is poor for CAVI and finally ruled that out by constantly repeated upslur note mentioned above. Have fairly extensive experience with this song from PA, OH, WV, TX and NC. Audio and photos to follow. Later was able to view the bird well and now adding photos. Typical vireo with fairly stout bill, slow deliberate movements compared to a warbler, bring yellow throat, yellowish head, bright yellow "spectacles". The bird has white below past the the throat and grayish above with white wing bars.
