Деталі спостереження
Rare in the area though has wintered several times. Seen flying over ridge several times over the course of about 2 minutes. Poor photos that may be suggestive but certainly not diagnostic. When I first saw it I was unsure of what it was, as it was clearly not an accipiter, buteo or falcon and was off for a number of reasons for harrier (which was the only species I thought about before realizing what it was). Description: small, long-tailed and long winged raptor about coop sized it seemed, with relatively small proportional head. The tail was very long and thin and held sometimes together and sometimes slightly spread showing a triangular, square-tipped shape. The wings were long, thin and angular like a longer-winged Peregrine kind of. The bird’s flight was odd and I suspect it may have been hawking insects on the ridge. It would soar with its wings held in a loose “M”
