A female Scarlet Robin perching on a barbed wire fence. The western race of the Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang campbelli) is restricted to the south-western corner of Western Australia. Other races of the Scarlet Robin are found in south-eastern Australia south of about 25°S and on islands in the south-western Pacific. Scarlet Robins form permanent monogamous pairs and defend their territory all year round. They prey mainly on small insects on the ground that they spy from an elevated perch. They tend to be curious, confiding little birds and will often tolerate a quiet close approach. This female Scarlet Robin was perching on a barbed wire fence on a road verge on the edge of Wandoo woodland (Eucalyptus wandoo) and cleared pasture east of Perth, Western Australia. Elevation: 315 m. Date added to IBC: July 12, 2018.
