A Toco Toucan mashing up a large cicada for its chicks. The spectacular Toco Toucan (Rhamphastos toco) is the largest and best-known species of Toucan. It is the only non-forest species of Toucan, and lives along forest edges where it feeds mainly on fruit, but will also take insects and nestling birds. A pair pf Toco Toucans were nesting in a tree hollow just above the heads of tourists at a lookout near the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas in Iguacu National Park in southern Brazil. This adult Toco Toucan had caught a large cicada that is broke up and softened in its beak before flying to its nest in a tree hollow nearby to feed its chicks. Elevation: 125 m.
