As is well known, American Redstart songs can be very different from one another. Since I did not see the bird I recorded, this makes species ID for the recording a bit challenging. However, despite the fact that Warbler Woodland has a dozen warbler species recorded in migration on eBird, it has only 3 -- Yellow Warbler, Common Yellowthroat and American Redstart -- recorded in June. (That is approximately true for Stutsman Co. in general as well.) The song seems quite different from those of Yellow Warbler and Common Yellowthroat, and the sonogram has significant similarities to several eBird sonograms of American Redstart. Accordingly, I have placed the sonogram here, under American Redstart. For similar eBird sonograms, see ML167728361 : second 1 ML165637181 : second 2 ML165053141: second 2; second 13; second 20 ML164020921 : second 13 ML163925131 : second 3 ML163886781 : second 14 ML163834831 : second 16 ML158106361 : second 2

One American Redstart was seen. One was also heard. So was there one or were there two? The sonogram came from a recording that cannot be conclusively tied to the seen redstart, although the vocalization was captured not far from the location of the sighting in Warbler Woodland, and not very distant in time either. Equally, though, it cannot be conclusively said that there were two American Redstarts present. 1 is the conservative choice.
