Habitat shot.
Деталі спостереження
(Rare) In short chordgrass marsh with little other vegetation. First heard at about 8:05 behind me - I thought the sound was a small woodpecker like a downy tapping on a hard, dead branch. I turned around and realized there was nothing but marsh and no possible woodpecker. A moment later my brain registered that it could be a yellow rail. I played a recording from my phone twice with no response. I began to second-guess myself with all the Virginia rails kekking and snipe and coot calling. Then at around 8:10 it called again, clearly and close (less than 100 feet), with a short burst of wooden-metal rhythmic double clicks. A moment later it called again, also brief. I waited a moment, play my recording a third time and then let my phone record. Several minutes later, I caught the record below. Pretty exciting find. Location aside, I was surprised it was calling in strong daylight, still before sunset, though never for very long.
