NOTES: Breeding status: BREEDING; BIRDS WERE NESTING IN HOLE IN DEAD TOPS OF TREES. LNS Note: Unbroken cut with internal recordist announcement and handling noise gain change. JN 20Jul2005 [As far as I can determine, this represents mostly the song of the species. Some elements appear spectrographically similar to the "Main Call" or melodious series of whistles described in BNA, but others are probably best described as the warbles and chortles termed "Chatter" in the account. Given a species with such varied and complex vocalizations, I doubt that these two have a biologically different context. By contrast, the series of harsher notes that appear spectrographically similar to the "chuff-chuff-chuff..." calls of BNA may be different (1:285-1:305, 1:44-1:455, 2:005-2:04, 2:145-2:16, 2:265-2:275, 3:09-3:105, 3:32-3:345, 4:24-4:27, 4:56-4:575, 5:005-5:02 (BEST example), 7:175-7:185, 7:275-7:29, 7:515-7:545), but even this may not be a safe assumption, given that these two vocalizations are sometimes given together (e.g., 2:47-2:505). The loud "check" calls at 2:59-3:175 are those of Agelaius phoeniceus (there are also several songs by this species). Quality changed from 2-3 to 2 - CAM - 1 November 2005].
