NOTES: Notes: "2-transistor, grounded-emitter, battery-operated pre-amplifier was used. We were cruising about 5 miles off Waianae on board the sampan, "Imua," searching for cetaceans to capture when this school of Stenos was sighted. Upon getting into their center, the engine was cut and hydrophone dropped. We picked up this very lively conversation and echo-locating. Cut 1 of this species was made in Oceanic foundation's research pools. Vocalizations of the wild ones are most different. The wild ones do much more echolocating. Probably this isn't so necessary in tanks where a captive knows the situation so well. I have the impression also that the captive animals are much inhibited in their behavior. This is not to say that behavior between wild and captive are quite profound." Physical description of sound: "High-pitched whistles, echolocating clicks, bronx cheer type blowhole noises." Behavior: swimming, breaching, blowing. SEAOCEAN TEMPAIR: 24 TEMPWATER: 24. Other Behaviors: Clicks.
