Continuing bird. Thank you to Matthew for finding such a great bird! I attempted to first locate the bird from 10:20 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m., with no luck. As I was leaving the site, however, I began to notice midges coming off the water. I felt the bird may still show with the increased insect activity, but I had to leave. After returning home, I received a text from Matthew that he re-located the flycatcher in the same vicinity about 30 minutes after I left. I returned an hour later with Shelley Green. At the end of the first section of boardwalk, we saw a bird "skulking" low in the lakeside vegetation. Its shape and stature was suggestive of a Myiarchus flycatcher. Suddenly the bird popped up on a branch 6-7 feet from us, at eye level. My 600 mm lens could barely take a photo due to the short distance, but we viewed the bird at this close range for approximately one minute before it dropped down in the vegetation and out of sight. We stayed another hour, checking the vegetation 50-60 yards in either direction of our sighting, but we did not re-locate it. Diagnostic marks: Less "robust" in stature than a Great-crested Flycatcher; olive brown upperparts, with a short brown crest; white throat and chest; pale yellow belly (more pale than photos represented); long rufous-colored tail; dark bill, whitish wingbars. (Poor) documentation photos, but . . . Life bird!!
