Деталі спостереження
This bird was observed on Cerro Noroeste Road, at an elevation of about 7500 feet, in a coniferous stand of the Los Padres National Forest. I believe it is a female/juvenile Calliope, based on (a) location, (b) habitat, and (c) appearance. As to appearance, the bird was tiny, even for a hummingbird. In the photo, note the peachy wash on the underparts and green stippling on the throat, visible beneath the sprinkling of pollen. There is no orange-red spot as is found on the throats of adult female Allen's/Rufous Hummingbirds, and the green stippling is unlike the relatively clean throats of juvenile Allen's/Rufous Hummingbirds). In the photo, also note that the primaries extend far past the short tail, unlike Allen's or Rufous Hummingbirds, whose tails normally extend past the tips of the primaries.
