Деталі спостереження
Swan was spotted by John Patterson on large lake or slough straight south of Radisson near River at Easting 336926 Northing 5804872 (Latitude: 52.369647; Longitude: 107.395295). Both John Patterson and I observed the swan through spotting scopes and John was able to obtain photos that will be posted on the ebird listing for this square transect. There was no yellow spot on beak. A red grinning line was observed by Stan Shadick. The photos show relatively little white feathering forward of the eye making the featherless opening in front of the eye seem wider than in Tundra Swans. The bird's forehead and beak had a linear profile similar to a Canvasback. There was no observed kink in its neck when swimming. The bird later swam to the centre of the lake. No mate or obvious nest was visible near the west end of this unnamed large lake. This may be the first confirmed photograph of this species in the Saskatoon bird district. However, Stan Shadick and other observers have previously suspected finding Trumpeter Swans along the North Saskatchewan River near this location as well as near Radisson Lake north of this location. Because this species has been suspected in this area on previous occasions, the breeding evidence for this sighting is proposed to be listed for the Breeding Bird Atlas as H (suitable habitat).
