Juvenile calling repeatedly while facing adult. Begging call?
Gözlem detayları
One adult and one juvenile on Duckbill Lake. Both had black crown and nape and white on the forehead (not the black eye patches that Forster's would have). Adult had some black feathers on forehead, presumably from molt out of alternate plumage. Bill was mostly dark with red near the base. Adult seemed to have a slight carpal bar but unclear how much was shadow of ruffled feathers. In flight the adult showed dark wedge on outer primaries and dark on the secondaries. Juvenile had no black on forehead, and black bill with some reddish near the base, strong black carpal bar, and some faint brown on the back. Juvenile had slightly shorter bill than adult, noticable when the two were perched side by side. Considered Arctic for juvenile, but it had some brown on the back, a very strong black carpal bar, and photos showed dark centers of the secondaries, all better for Common. And juvenile was making what may have been begging calls at adult. Photos of both (much better photos of juvenile who flew closer) and audio recordings of two types of call from juvenile.
