Gözlem detayları
Another birder (Bernd Gravenstein) and I observed the bird near the east bank of Pond 3 from the River Trail on the west side of Pond 3 shortly after 5 pm. After we had periodic, distant views of the intermediate (in color) juvenile long-tailed jaeger for about 10 minutes, we then observed it flap its wings as it moved out of our view. At around 5;20 pm, I observed the jaeger circle overhead. I was able to obtain a number of photographs of it in flight. After circling, it flew southeast in the direction of Pond 2, where it was reportedly later observed by other birders. The bird had a dark gray head and back and a pale bill with a dark tip. The throat appeared gray and lightly streaked and the breast appeared heavily streaked. The under-tail coverts appeared heavily barred. The bird's scapulars, lesser, median and greater coverts, and tertial feathers were dark with pale tips. The bird's primary feathers appeared dark without noticeable pale tips. The wing linings of the ventral surface of the bird's wings (underwings) appeared dark with pale speckling. The two central tail feathers appeared rounded and slightly longer than the other tail feathers.
