lifer!!!! online guides for twitching this bird said to park at 随园食府 and walk 3 mins wasnt sure of the exact location but this area is 光明农场大观园 and there are two franconlins in the area the other is soemwhere in 欢乐田园 but this one is the most 稳定. it is said that it is best seen around 5:30 but is becoming active earlier and earlier because more people are coming to watch it and that it regularly appears either on the mound 22.764049022708143, 113.96046918759718 or on the cable in the 22.76493973137591, 113.96007748209749 field. theres parking for a few cars at 22.764084090088396, 113.96175839307679 and two other bird photographers were parked there. they were at 22.76497129181267, 113.96070497149022 when i arrived and asked whether I had seen the francolin (since I was checking out some white shouldered starling flybys just earlier and they saw me with bins) and i said no. when i got there less than 30 secs later heard the francolin call in the distance there was about 15-20 secs between its calls and they asked whether i saw the francolin. then this guy on a moped came down the road from our SE and they asked the guy if the francolin was over there (i.e. to the SE) and he hadn't seen it just yet but told us to head over since the sound was also coming from that direction. head over and before i even stopped spotted this black thing on the mound, stopped immediately and checked with bins and saw the francolin! got photos easily with little obstruction there is grass on the top of the mound but its sparse and the other people head over soon and got pics as well. one of the photographers came from guangzhou and the guy on the moped spoke cantonese with them but has a different accent especially when he says "只" (as in 两只鹧鸪) thought it was intersting maybe dongguan/bao'an area dialect? idk lol. anyways we viewed the francolin at 22.764010448579437, 113.96162909223223 for about 15 mins and then i left to look for painted snipe. the guy on the moped also showed us pics of the francolin he took (apparently he was also a photographer) and they were very nice pics with low angle. basically all the photos of the francolin online are either on the mound, on cables, or on this low roof (the best angle) but the roof location is of the francolin in the 光明欢乐田园 area not at this site and he told us he only saw it twice the whole month so its not very stable there. there was also two photographers with tripods at 22.766173761107183, 113.95898977390414 looking S not sure what they were waiting for but there were 4 (5 if you count the moped guy) bird photographers there in total this morning.
