Gözlem detayları
One hawk flew up from the wetland edge as I entered the area, and displayed it's black-and-white striped, fan-shaped tail- typical of a buteo. It landed in a nearby tree, at which point a second bird flew in and perched above it, also displaying its distinctive multi-striped, fan-shaped tail. I took several photos despite the harsh lighting conditions, and then both birds flew off towards the Spears Road area. This is the second time that I have observed two juvenile Red-shouldered Hawks at the Mill Pond, the first one being on 15 Sept. 2023. Not sure where these birds are coming from, but one could speculate that this species may possibly be nesting in the highly suitable habitat in the Randle vicinity, or the adjacent Woods Creek area on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. There's something happening here, but what it is ain't exactly clear!
