As I was nearing the end of my transect survey I heard the classic “pit-ta-tuck!” calls of a Summer Tanager. After a brief search I located the bird, a striking immature male, in the riparian right along the creek at (38.5272967, -121.8007512). This was a bright tanager with a red head, yellow-green body and a hefty bill. The bird flew back forth across the creek, first hanging out on the Yolo side for a bit before flying across to a bird bath on the Solano side. It dropped down to drink from the creek here. It then caught a wasp and flew back across the creek where it sat quietly in a tree. Ethan Monk arrived and viewed the bird with me here before it flew off and disappeared. The total observation time was probably about 15-20 minutes, during which it only called for about a minute and sat silently for most of the period. An hour-plus search of the immediate area with others was unsuccessful. Only my second SUTA for Yolo and my first for Solano! Photos and audio to be posted
