NOTE TO EBIRD SOUND DATABASERS— this Henslow’s was singing in a way not previously encountered by me nor in Merlin. Please see audio clip. In the prairie west of Sunday pond, there was a short trill I didn’t know, and Merlin didn’t either. Eventually I went into the prairie after it. It was from a Henslow’s sparrow perched on a small shrub (dogwood? I forget) and singing consistently. I managed to get a decent audio recording despite the wind, and pictures although just with my binocs/phone. This song was distinctly not the typical henslow’s super short insect trill, and I have never heard it before despite significant exposure to them. I have clear confirmation the Henslow’s was singing it (see pic). The pics are not great, but i had clear looks at it, and it was a henslow’s— olive back with intricate pattern, yellow/olive pattern on face, fine streaking on sides/upper breast. The trill can be heard three times in audio, once at beginning, in middle, and at end. This henslow’s made this song probably 40 times over the course of 15 minutes.
