Gözlem detayları
Continuing great find by Jack and later Danny! Very active foraging loosely with several other birds (including WAVI and BEVI for direct comparisons) on moths, caterpillars at south end of pond and along the east side of pond. Feeding was mostly in a flowering Soapberry with some fruits and hundreds of moths. This was initially more or less a feeding frenzy with all birds foraging about with no vocalizations. About here: 32.109271, -104.471894 Large vireo never allowed for photos staying partially obstructed and was almost entirely under shaded canopy while feeding. Very long, pale bill relative to the WAVI with a REVI type head profile (flat head, long bill). Dark line through the eye much like REVI, dark cap appearance under shadows in canopy. Undertail was especially noticeable with a bright, yellowy-lime-green, with a white belly. Flanks and underwing washed in this same bright color. Above, wings seen clearly. Rather uniform olive color, unmarked by wing bars. Bird was mostly active foraging and initially silent. There was later two bouts of singing, with a high pitched voice with a bit of squeaky quality. After viewing, the bird moved away from Soapberry tree towards Jack's initial pin location on the east side of the pond and began singing about where the flowing water made for difficult background for recordings. Then moved further back and away, but 20 minutes later returned to the Soapberry tree location and again starting singing. Song differed in pace with a very relaxed pace initially east of pond. When returned to the Soapberry tree, song phrases were much quicker and fit just about identically with the eBird/Merlin first song recording with phrases coming about a second apart. Interestingly, BirdNet suggests this as a Black-whiskered Vireo.
