On my first Loop around the pond, I thought it was one of the hybrid mallards. It’s head was down, and all I could see was a mottled gray back. But on my second Loop, I noticed how pointy it was, and the black stripe on its neck, so I took a closer look, and sure enough! It was the loon!. I guess it is a juvenile of some sort, because it is not in full black breeding plumage.
