Gözlem detayları
The first spring record for the county, and generally rare inland in spring! Following rain the day before. (or this morning?) Sighted distantly over the forebay alone; eventually came close in to Bonaparte's Corner where it rested with the Bonies. After a second a sea lion came by and started hunting. The big flock of Bonies followed closely, and the Sabine's joined. Among all of the gulls, the Sabine's was unique in that it was the only gull to actually try and pull fish from (basically) the sea lion's mouth! I took a couple photos documenting this. None of the Bonies ever got this close. The Sabine's did this repeatedly. I was surprised to realize this bird could be picked out when sitting on the water from the Bonies based on how much darker it was. Size-wise it was similar. Kittiwake was carefully eliminated; the black hood was in partially; the bill was as expected for an adult w/ yellow tip.
