Gözlem detayları
These little birds were common to abundant on many Caribbean islands but they seldom sat still for a photo. They range widely throughout the Neotropics and were formerly considered the sole surviving member of the Coerebidae (Honeycreeper) family. However, molecular evidence prompted the decision to place the Bananaquit next to the "Tiaris" grassquits and insert them within the Thraupidae (Tanagers). However "Coereba" remains a unique genus with only this species. Geographic variation complex with 41 subspecies. Birds here on St. Lucia are the race "C. f. martinicana" characterized by long bill with red gape, broad white supercilium, mostly black side of head, throat and chin but with central throat whitish. White wing spot faint or lacking. Formerly called "Bahama Honeycreeper."
