***Very Rare/borderline MEGA. Third try was the charm! Immature plump marsh bird transitioning to adult plumage. Brownish overall with a clean white rump and yellow legs (appeared dullish, but could have been a factor of the lighting). State bird. After some indecisiveness, I decided to leave work during a heavy snow. Having to detour around two accidents on my way north, I began to think the world was against me in getting this bird. The snow cleared up north of NY104 and I shot right up to Braddock. Arriving at the dead end/parking area, George Ford getting back to his car. He informed me that the bird was currently being seen. I ran out there as fast as I could in my clunky muckboots, nearly tripping on two of the recently cut stumps. I passed Linda Birkel on the way out, who also informed me the bird was still out in the open. Out of breath, I finally reached the end, where Jay Powell oriented me and I got the bird in my scope. I'm sure my franticness was quite comical. We observed the bird for a few minutes. I was able to grab two digiscopes, with only one being manageable for documentation. The Purple Gallinule disappeared at 16:22 back into the reeds, hopefully to survive another day...
