Gözlem detayları
Seen at 47.3919614, -94.2838469. First observed this bird elegantly gliding next to my pontoon. Immediately identified it as a Jaeger and noticed that it had an abnormally long tail. Also noted short thick bill and dark and relatively small head, but also noticed a breast band, which confused me. After consulting some birders more experienced with Jaegers, I learned that breast bands are normal in Long-tailed Jaegers for the plumage they have at this time of year. I immediately pulled up the anchor and tried to follow it, but it pulled up high in the sky and veered off to the NW where I lost it in the sunlight. Was about a 45 second encounter, but one that I will never forget! I believe this is a first county record. Lifer! MN bird #301 ***Sorry for the late submission, I wanted to verify which species this was before posting and I was on a camping trip with friends until Tuesday in an area where service was spotty.***
