Gözlem detayları
Nearly white, small plover with yellow legs, black bill with no yellow, and broken breast band. Banded, right leg, red band above the knee and a blue band below the knee. (EDIT: right upper may have been orange, not red. I found one photo showing orange, which would make it a Great Lakes Piping Plover). First observed in flight, approximately 11:45; noticeably almost white. Seemed to come from behind me but maybe I walked right past it when i was on edge to better view Wood Stork and it flushed when I kept moving. Circled and eventually settled behind me at approximately here (35.7560993, -78.9704759). Observed and took many digiscopes. Continued towards mouth of White Oak Creek, bird still present on my way back, more photos. Walked through woods to not disturb and confirmed it was still present when I started back west along lakeshore around 12:45. Bird was mostly alone but was near a couple Semipalmated Plovers and Killdeers when I reacquired it on my way out. Would be very easy to miss against backdrop of lake reflecting cloudy sky and the flats here are a little lighter-colored than those at NE Creek and Transis Camp. UPDATE: Reported sighting to Great Lakes Piping Plover group and, with reference to Dale Lambert's photo, confirmed as a 2023 chick from Whitefish Point, MI.
