Note the oddly ringing and complex call that is given after the first 4 standard type 2 notes in the recording. Those first 4 notes are an adult female perched near the top of an Englemann Spruce, and the odd sounding notes after that and then alternating with that are from an adult male below her in the same spruce.
Gözlem detayları
Lone bird flying W down slope a quarter mile up. 22 birds detected in a flock of 15 that was feeding on budworms in doug fir and on englemann cones and then a flock of 7 that flew up to meet them when they flew downslope to the E over the big englemann forest. Part of this flock, about 10 birds, flew back W over the ridge. I attempted to track them down for about 30 minutes as they bounced around the forest W of the ridge, but the best I could get was 2 juvs perching for a minute in a dead whitebark. 6 more in small groups joining and splitting from sub groups of the last flock mentioned. Only could tell there were more when 20 or so went to the E slope and several more remained. Of these groups observed until 11:20, all were around 43.4851656, -110.9572356. Of this larger flock, 2 were 5 and 2 were 4. Both these types were heard in small breakaway groups that did not land and feed near me but were mixed in with the broader flock.
