Gözlem detayları
As I have observed this hummingbird this morning it is becoming apparent that it is more likely an Allen's rather than a Rufous. It has a dull green cap on a flat head and the green plumage extends most heavily down the middle of the back and fades out to just above the rump. The green feathers also run along the side of the back just above the top of the wings. The hummingbird is an adult male with a complete gorget. The tips of the wings are in poor condition and it is missing all but about three tail feathers. 10-3-22 After reviewing photos and a couple of online sources I believe the tail feather on the left of the photo is the R2 and it is narrow like an Allen’s and not notched like a Rufous. If this is the case then this is an Allen's Hummingbird. Note: I was corrected by Harlan Stewart on the tail feathers. He believes they are either 3, 4, or 5.
