**Detected in the field as a very odd-sounding crossbill, which I thought was likely Cassia. I pulled my iphone out to record it the bird flew overhead, but only managed to pick up two series calls (one with two, the other with three). Call lower and flatter sounding than other crossbills, ca. 3 khz. Identification based entirely on flight calls. Bird seen only briefly as a silhouette as it flew over, appearing basically identical to a heavy-billed Red Crossbill, appeared to be an adult, certainly not a fresh juvenile. There have been previous reports from north of here, starting with Christian Nunes July 2021 record from southeast of Hot Sulphur Springs, and several seen in Alfred Bailey Bird Nesting Area starting in mid-July this year. The closest record to here was on 6 August 2022, northwest of Jefferson, Park Co., by Nathan Pieplow. Uploaded correct recording on 2 Sep, and changed ID to Cassia from Cassia/Red. Have also sent it to a few people for input, since I've never seen or heard the species before.
