Gözlem detayları
I have decided that this is the same bird we saw here last month, it’s just that the tail color looks strikingly different depending on lighting conditions. I believe it is an Intermediate morph adult. There is a lot of white mottling on the upper breast. Otherwise the bird is black on the body and head. The undertail coverts have heavy black and white checking. The underwing coverts are black, contrasting with the white remiges (at least half of the remiges appear to be barred), which have a thick black terminal edge. Upperwing is all dark. Bare unfeathered tarsus. Tail appears greyish-white or rufous-y depending on lighting conditions. There is a smudgy terminal band in the uppertail, and two feathers are all white. Studying this bird is complicated by its skittish nature - it appears uneasy even when we are inside our vehicle a quarter mile away.
