Gözlem detayları
This bird was spotted at 1008 from the top deck in the slick, it was chased farther from the boat by a South Polar Skua, but we were able to maneuver so we intercepted it as it moved back towards us on the slick. We were working a current edge in about 1800 to 2400 feet of water offshore of the shelf break about 30 miles SE of Hatteras Inlet. The water temperature was about 77.9 degrees Fahrenheit and we were with this bird for about ten minutes. It was a light morph individual, brown above and white below with noticeably long wings and a long tail. The bill was mostly blackish, paler gray in the sunlight, and long and slender. The underwings were white centrally with dark margins and under primaries. The way the bird held itself when it flew was buoyant, with the neck held in and the wings pushed forward. The tail was closed in flight, the under tail was dark, and at times the pink feet were visible. -Kate Sutherland Thousands of photos were taken.
