The semi-circular gray plumage on the sides of the head is clearly demarcated from the differently structured brown-yellow hind neck. Note that gray crown is separated from lateral gray semi-circular area by a narrow strip behind the yellow supercilium.
Gözlem detayları
This flock of 6 females and 5 males stayed along the wooded edge of a muddy pond between at least 7:50 and 13:00. They spend much time feeding on boxelder (Acer negundo) fruits, but also fed on hawthorn (Crataegus) fruits, where they dropped the fleshy outer part. A few times, some birds were on the ground, and seen drinking at the pond edge and foraging. Around mid-day, the group was resting in a group of pine trees, and were heard softly calling. Eventually, they went back, usually one by one, into the box elder trees to resume eating. -- I noticed at least one male that seemed to be unusually dark brown-yellow underneath, with contrasting yellow undertails (see images). A cursory browse through Macaulay library images did not reveal dark birds like this. I also noticed on a male a gray semi-circular area radiating from the beak to the ear coverts area, which was clearly demarcated from the brown-orange hind neck (see images). I have not seen this pattern described in Birds of the World. -- Life bird.
