A breeding male Long-tailed Widowbird perching and calling. Displaying male Long-tailed Widowbirds (Euplectes progne) are a common sight in the South African highveld during summer, flying with their spectacular 40cm-long tails and with their wings almost ‘back-peddling’. This male was resting on a steel fencepost between display flights, calling as his tail fluttered in the breeze. Elevation: 1748 m. Date added to IBC: April 20, 2019.
