Adult male preening with lichens: use of a tool?. Taken with a Nikon D7200 + Nikkor 800mm f/5.6 ais EDIF + tripod. Interesting behaviour from this male, pecking small pieces of lichens, holding them in the bill, then scratching the lichens against the feathers. This was repeated several times around 5 min. If the lichens are used just mechanically and/or chemically too for cleaning/sanitizing feathers need to be investigated. Elevation: 776 m. Date added to IBC: June 23, 2016.
