Diagnostic white rump.
Gözlem detayları
Continuing, Lifer! Foraging and generally "hanging out" with a small flock of Western Sandpipers. A flock of Semipalmated Plovers loosely associated with them, as well. Unmistakable: Clean white rump in flight, orange base on lower mandible, larger, stockier, longer-winged than all nearby Westerns. We got to watch it throughout the entire observation; easily located pretty close to the Little Beach entrance, just to the East. The flock flew many times, but stayed in that general area. Eventually, the flock began to walk very close to us, and we got to enjoy much behavioral observations of the White-rumped: feeding, resting, hiding from perceived aerial threats, preening, bathing, yawning, scratching, and even some rhinokinesis! Once we got to be familiar with this Life Bird's appearance and behavior, we were both able to quickly and easily pick it out from the flock at greater distances whenever they went farther away.
