Подробности наблюдения
A bit early; a female visited several times, and a male briefly and only once, the flowers of a Victorian box and a California lilac. Neither stayed for more than several seconds, being immediately expelled by the hordes of other Selasphorus. The female was a tiny, compact hummingbird, smaller than Rufous/Allen's, with a shorter bill and tail which had virtually no orange at the base. The sides/flanks were a light buff, less orange than Rufous/Allen's. The throat was lightly marked in small dark streaks/speckles, and had no central red spot. Despite brief views, I could see the small white spot in the lores, giving the face a distinctive look. I managed a few photos when it briefly perched. The male was unmistakable: tiny, bright green above including the crown, with a distinctive streaked, magenta gorget.
