Подробности наблюдения
First saw a very large raptor sitting on a dead snag. Obviously an eagle. The bird was close enough that you could make out the golden nape. As I jumped out of the truck to grab the camera that was in my bag in the back the bird took flight showing a black and white tail and white wing patches in the underwing. Juvenile GOEA. I did not see any white in the above wing, but I also didn't have binos so its possible to have small patches there. I only got two photos of a very distant bird. Both photos are heavily cropped. The one picture shows the two tone tail and the light nape (with the distance, kind of makes it look like a 3-4 year BAEA). The other picture shows the "broad-handed" wing as Sibley describes it. Sadly neither picture shows the under wing white patches and both pictures are so poor. This could feasibly be the same individual I saw near Clearwater Lake a few weeks ago.
