Comparison with SESP (left). Note upper rufous scapulars, longer bill, black legs eliminating LESA.
Подробности наблюдения
The juvenile western was with some other peeps (LESA, SESA) for comparison. It was similar in size to the other peeps present. It had a relatively long droopy bill, rufous upper scapulars, black legs, and a clean white breast. A SESA differs in that it has a lightly shaded/streaked breast, a shorter bill, and it does not have rufous upper scapulars. There are also subtle differences, a WESA has a larger looking head and a lighter cap. It was In the southwest area of south pond. The western was feeding with a mixed group of shorebirds among the broken corn stalks, in the shallow water, frequently burying its head in the water. I will submit a report to the ORBC.
