Подробности наблюдения
Dark gull-like bird with bicolored bill, pale fringes to the scapulars, wing coverts and tertials but not the primaries. Overall grayish tone as opposed to the warmer rufous of Parasitic. In flight, noted 2 bright white primary shafts on outer two primaries of the upper wing, extending almost to the end of each feather. I received an email from MaryAnn Wilson and Terry Martinez on 8/30 stating they observed a potential Jaeger they believed to be a Pomarine. I forwarded the email to Eric Carpenter to see if he'd be willing to follow up on it in the morning. He agreed and was able to relocate and identify the bird as a Long-tailed. The bird was predominately observed floating on the water on Pond 2 east, picking insects off the water and also those that flew around it. A couple of times, it would pick up off the water and fly a short distance, displaying diagnostic views of the underwing pattern as well as the amount of white primary shafts on the upper wing. The bird continued through dusk.
