NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 45. Bulk reel: 359 Weather: Cloudy fair, slight drizzle. a) 22 Oct 1974. 11:50 AM. Alarm calls by male because I was near his nest (Nest #74-3) (young in nest); also excited song when I went to and touched the nest. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. Under conditions of stress the male will often sing very excitedly. My reaching into a nest, especially if I remove a young, or if I pick up a recently fledged young, causes the male frequently to fly around me excitedly singing; other times he will sing so from a perch, for similar reasons, if he is timid or if he's somewhat habituated. The last was the case when I tried to record this reaction in part a). In part b I had not yet performed the nest control lbut had climbed up to the nest once to be sure the young were still in it; his reaction was thus somewhat stronger when I subsequently recorded, although still not as excited silnging as I've sometimes experienced. This excited song seems rather similar to the song of a song-flight, which is different from the advertising song of a perched bird. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. 203 tape. LN. b) 24 Oct 1974. 11:50 AM. Weather: Cloudy, fair. More of same. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. LN. Sound stimulation was (other): recordist near nest. Response to playback: Different song. Other Behaviors: Emit Alarm.
