Probable lesser black backed. Both had noticeably darker mantles. Too distant for me to positively id as I never did get a good look at the bills as both had their heads tucked in. Couldn't get identifiable photos. Found by Robin J who pointed them out to me. A third immature appeared larger than nearby ring billeds and I would think to be an American Herring but I can't be certain myself
