initiallty spotted medium sized greyish bird with flappy wingbeats flying SE parallel to the kala walls at 41.92839411076142, 60.820198602407366, very close to the ground. tracked it with bins and saw the bird land on a mound at 41.927606168419516, 60.820728144165614. was hard to tell and required some squinting but its shape suggested an owl and it soon turned its head to confirm! it perched on the same spot for ~10 minutes, only making one flight to scrubs around 41.92760268192736, 60.82099994436012 from its perch. apparenlty didn't make a catch and returned to its perch. later i slowly approached it along the line of mounds to the south of the ruins and it flushed while i was ~10m away, heading towards the 41.92836105903343, 60.81900807952927 area ditches. later i went down to the 41.928029300670765, 60.81995755771149 area path and spotted it around 41.92785369444312, 60.819635692634044, surprised me right in the open and managed to get some shots before it flushed west
