I initially logged this as 40 on the basis that as we arrived a local birder pointed out a flock departing overhead. I counted 35 birds. They told us the birds overnight at the wetland but head off to surrounding fields for the day. I snapped quick photos of the departing flock - but now reviewing these at home, I have a distant flock of Snow Geese followed by the overhead flock - which turned out to be Greater White-fronted Geese. Nevertheless, as we drove around we saw three individual Cranes flying distant, and at one point two juveniles landed in a field - still relatively distant, but undoubtedly our target species. So in the end, our count is 5, not 40.
