ENDEMIC: The Jamaican Vireo can be easily confused with the Jamaican Elaenia as the Elaenia has a similar size and similar dull upper plumage. However the Jamaican Vireo has more prominent white wing bars and the eyes have a smaller pupil so that the sclera of the eyes is visible around the smaller dark pupil. Greater Antillean Elaenia or the Jamaican Elaenia has pupils that are large so that the sclera of the eye is not visible. The Elaenia also has prominent whitish markings around the eye and a broken white eye ring that the Vireo doesn't have. The feeding behaviors are also distinct. The Jamaican Vireo forages actively among the leaves and branches while the Elaenia is a small flycatcher usually found perched upright making short "sallying flights" in the pursuit of flying insects.
