One of the most special bird experiences I've had to date. While following a transmittered junco through dense rhododendrons, I looked up to see the backside of a Northern Saw-whet Owl roosting about ten feet off the ground. This is the first time I've ever found a roosting saw-whet and it was a privilege. Tiny owl with brown back with white speckling, beautiful yellow cat-like eyes, pale-fringed facial disk, brown streaks on breast. Presumably the same individual detected a few days earlier. Reported late to prevent harassment.
