Подробности наблюдения
While doing a morning trails we stopped at the side of the road to observe nesting activity of Changeable Hawk-eagle on the hill at the other side of the road. Shubham(Our guide) observed some flycatcher movement in a tree behind and asked me to check it. I though it has to be Asian Brown Flycatcher because other brown flycatchers are migratory and indeed it was Asian Brown Flycatcher. We realized it was not alone, it was pair which was bringing some sort of moss from nearby threes and it was building a nest on one of the branches. One of them was predominantly bringing the nesting material and one of them sometimes used to sit nearby as a guard, and used to give call. Twice the pair attacked the creatures which came within the range of the nest, once it was Garden lizard and once it was Common Iora. While entering the same into eBird to my surprise it showed as rarity. After checking with eBird data there were no record from Konkan region from months of May, June. Nearest records around in were from Pune, Gujrat, Goa, Karnataka, Satara, Mumbai. Hardly any mention of nesting in these records. But apart from eBird there was a paper of Nesting of these species on Indian birds from Goa. In the same paper there was a mention of sighting of juvenile Asian Brown Flycatcher from Dapoli in July 2018. Also Avinash Sharma found some posts of juvenile Asian Brown on Facebook group from Pune. I am sure more people must have observed them nesting around this region. I will try to gather more information on same.
