Popped out of the grass this evening at about 17:40 once the sun was down. They were active for the next 20 minutes hunting low over the fallow field or calling and fighting higher in the air. They went quiet for a period while we watched a hunting bird perch on the ground, then the initial four birds we saw were joined by at least 3 new birds as the darkness closed in. Not too much harrier activity thankfully. Beautiful pale yellow and brown owls with unique hunting style and rasping bark calls.
