AK report: *Uncommon but not rare. This subspecies is outnumbered by celata but is quite present in the RGV and NE Mexico. Very few eBird reports as few are up to the task! Absolutely classic orestera- a stunner. Compared to celata, has a semi-hooded appearance not fully/contrasting gray hooded appearance, significantly brighter yellow below than any age of celata, bright yellow throat, yellow in the lores and in the face, back yellowish green with no cold gray tones. Photos, which are unedited except slight crop. The color is accurate to the bird as viewed in the field. We studied in multiple lighting conditions. I have extensive experience with celata (including their variation) and helped throughly document CT’s first record of orestera. Some of these are intermediate and best left as celata/orestera but this individual is very classic and shows all the necessary field marks.
